On Monday, May 13th, we rented a car from the Edinburgh Airport and drove to the beautiful Highlands of Scotland. The whole drive we kept hearing Scot quoting from the "Highlander" movie. It was entertaining at first (the first 5 mins), til we realized that he only knows 1 or 2 quotes. Egads!
Scot wanted to go to the Isle of Skye, which is the Scottish Highland area by Portree and is known for it's beautiful terrain. There are endless lochs, mountains, waterfalls and valleys to drive through. There were a ton of sheep EVERYWHERE and I was on the hunt for the Highland cow! We drove for hours from Torridon to Portree, to Staffin, then around through Uig and down passed the Skye Bridge back to Torridon where we stayed. We had beautiful weather while we were there, with the sun peaking through the ever present clouds. The best, however, was seeing the fog and mist settle between the mountains and create depth in the sky as we drove through each mountain pass. Photos do not do justice to the scenic views, so you will have to go visit.
On our way to Torridon we passed many beautiful lochs, streams, waterfalls and firths.Lots of little streams and babbling brooks and waterfalls of every size.We stopped to get dinner in Shieldaig and this was our view from the restaurant.I decided to try some Highland Single Malt while in the area. There are many stories about the old man. . . you can look them up, but what do you think - do those rocks look like fingers sticking out of the ground. . .or another male appendage?!Enjoying the beautiful cliffside views.Lealt WaterfallKilt Rock and the Mealt WaterfallThe Isle of Skye coastline. I just couldn't get enough. The fog and mist made for very "Mist"erious feeling as we drove around the mountains.Beautiful views from the Fairy Glen. I like this shot of Dexter - ever yoyoing. . . "There can only be one. .. "The morning view at Torridon.Everything is so green and lush!I asked Dexter to take a picture of us with the mountains in the background. I art directed him and asked him to take another picture without so much foreground grass. . . .and this is what he took. Punk! Haha!Eilean Donan Castle. We stumbled upon this beautiful castle and it was featured in the "Highlander" movie! Scot was stoked! Our drive out of the Highlands. The elusive Highland Cow! Gotchya!Arriving into Glasgow - what a change from the Highlands!I thought this bird was pretty, but then the owner of the hotel said they are magpies and nasty cannibalistic birds! Yikes!
