Curses, London Fog!
Thursday, May 16th, 2024
Everything was perfect. We woke the kids up at 5:30am so we can make our Glasgow flight to Marrakech, Morocco via London and Madrid (we got the 3 leg cheap tickets!). The kids were great, out of the hotel by 6am and on the road. Returned the rental car to Enterprise and then made our way to the terminal. After doing a little re-packing of liquids from the suitcase into the ziplock bags (with a confiscation of Zoe's toy handcuffs), we made it through security and to our gate. We boarded the plane and then we heard on the intercom,
"Due to heavy fog in London, flights had to be re-routed and our flight will be delayed. We will be pushing off in an hour." (Groan from the whole plane!) Our connecting flight only gave us about 1 hour at the London airport. . . .The pilot continued,
". . . You may wonder, 'Why are we on the plane?'" YES! He proceeded to explain that passengers have to wait on the plane so that in any moment, if they can fit the plane into the schedule on the runway, they have to take it! Fortunately, we were able to push off in 40mins, but we still missed our connecting flight.
When we arrived in Heathrow, British Airways took care of re-routing us. They handed us our new boarding passes, which took us through Casablanca into Marrakech . . . 8 hours later! We got to know Heathrow pretty well. We each received a 10Euro voucher for "refreshments," which helped to take care of lunch. Five hours of screen time and downloaded movies later, we were boarding our flight to Morocco!
Once we touched down in Casablanca, we were looking forward to a short 1 hour flight to Marrakech. We were due to take off at 11pm and arrive at around midnight. Unfortunately, we did not know that the clocks used to monitor Morocco's flights do not sync with the time on our watches. . . . another delay! We arrived at our Airbnb at around 1:30am in Marrakech. We took some quick showers and crashed, happy to finally be in Morocco!
