Train to Edinburgh, Scotland

Sunday, May 12th - Monday, May 13th, 2024

On the road again. . . we woke up early to take the LNER train to Edinburgh. We made our way to Kingscross station in London and waited for our track assignment. We were biting our nails a bit, because we kept seeing "cancelled" showing up on the schedule for the trains ahead or ours. I guess it is a common occurrence, especially if one train is delayed or broken, it can cause a chain reaction and delay other trains down the line. Thank goodness ours showed up! The track was assigned and we were on our way! The train ride took us from London all the way to Edinburgh in about 4.5 hours. It was a very scenic route and I was excited to see the countryside. I tried taking pictures, but most of them turned out blurry and/or had a telephone pole right in the middle of the shot. Argh!

We arrived in Edinburgh, Waverly and proceeded to walk over to our hostel about 10 mins away. The road was cobblestoney and hilly, so the kids were not enjoying the walk with their backpacks and rolly carry ons, but we made it! Pub/restaurant attached to the hostel was a nice stop for lunch and a mid afternoon drink.

When we finally got out to walk around we were welcomed with some beautiful cathedrals, cow udders and a bagpiper.

Throughout our trip, we ask the kids to do some research and pick some things that they would like to do. Max chose Camera Obscura in Edinburgh, which is a cool museum with all sorts of hands on illusions, tricks and eye bending exhibits. There is a rooftop terrace with 360 degree view of Edinburgh and of course the great telescope or Camera Obscura which can show views of the Royal Mile.
