After Italy we decided to stop off in Vienna, Austria for a couple days on the way to the Czech Republic. I noticed that that trains are getting more and more crowded, which means we may be hitting some summer European traffic from here on out. We were hoping to miss the surge, but I think the Olympics is also bringing some early travelers who might wind up in France for the event.
Our Vienna Airbnb was worth noting. Turns out it is owned by someone with a gallery, which is housed, right next door. The entrance to the apartment was the entrance to the gallery, and the Airbnb was outfitted with a lot of cool art. . . some a little weird, but interesting (see the end of the photos). It was a bit weird, but the location was awesome. Right in downtown and near all the museums and restaurants right down the street. We really didn't have to go to far to acces anything.
Our subway stop was Karlsplatz and we saw this cool building, which turned out it was our Airbnb building!Cafe Sperl for Father's day!Old classic Vienna cafe.Kids' first taste of Sachertorte.Haus des Meeres - the Vienna aquarium, built in a building that was once an anti-aircraft tower.Aquarium tunnels are always cool. Maui's Ocean Center is one of the best I've seen though.A Boa and Python snuggling.Doctor fish cleaning hands - garra rufa?Cute tamarin monkey babies.Little coffee break with cake at the roof top bar. So pretty.Wall of plants outside the Haus des Meeres.Prater ferris wheel - There is a little amusement park in the middle of Vienna. This is their famous ferris wheel that has a car that is made of glass. We walked around the area and explored some of the rides and had a typical Austrian meal. . . love the sausage and saurkraut! The Austrians really like their tower rides! A bunch of them - free fall and centrifugal types.Kids all enjoyed the water flume rides.Danube Tower (Donauturm)There is a slide on the outside of the Danube Tower that Scot and the kids rode down. It was short and not that fast, but it was an experience! There goes Max on the slide! This one was in our room and scared the b'jesus out of me the first time I saw it. I just didn't look at the wall when I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night.I wish I knew who painted this one.Lots of feeling in this one.You can't tell from this picture but there is alot of texture to this painting.
