Barcelona and Primavera Sound
Saturday June 1st - 3rd, 2024
Max has been getting more and more into music. He found out that there was a music festival in Barcelona called the Primavera Sound. The festival was taking place about 30 minutes away from where we were staying, so it was easy to get to. However, the artist he was most interested in, SZA, was playing at midnight on Saturday June 1st, the last night of the festival! Upon researching, Scot and I could get tickets for Saturday night . . . so we went! They had some bands from our younger days like PJ Harvey and Bikini Kill, but I also learned about some new musicians, like Mitski, who I have grown fond of. It was fun to watch Max excited, so I'm glad we went, but it rained on us and I am not built for late night concerts any more! We all slept in on Sunday morning.
Our Airbnb was down the street from the Sagrada Familia and we had a view of the tall towers from our window! It's so different to see up close and personal (see pictures). We took some time while we were in town to walk around and visit some of Gaudi's other buildings too. We tried to visit Park Guell as well, but tickets were sold out and we only got to peak inside from the street. If you plan on visiting Barcelona and want to go inside of Gaudi's buildings, you should definitely plan ahead.
When I was in Bilbao a couple years ago, I visited Anton Gaudi's El Capricho in Cantabria. I was able to go inside this summer home and see the early creativity and innovation of Gaudi. This house was decked out in sunflowers, which are my favorite flower, so it was particularly endearing to me. It's definitely different to see and feel the inside of his buildings vs just seeing the outside. Although, if outside is all you can see, it's still worth it!
