Sevilla - Flamenco and Seta (mushrooms!)
Wednesday, May 29th - June 1st, 2024
Early Wednesday, we drove our rental to the Lisbon airport and returned the car. From there, we got the worst taxi ride with the most rude cab driver I had EVER had! I didn't understand what he was saying, but he was upset, didn't want to drive us and reluctantly had us get in his car. After he threw our luggage into the back, he didn't even help us with the seats (someone had to go into the third row), and complained the whole time, scoffing and just being rude. It was only about a 10 minute ride, but we were happy to pay to get out of that car! I suspect he was hoping for a bigger fare, but no need to be rude!
The Lisbon Oriente Station is a very cool building. It was inaugurated in 1998 for the World Fair that took place that year in Lisbon. Unfortunately, it has not been kept up in the last few years and I heard that the city moved their unhoused to this area when the Pope visited Lisbon, and they have settled in the station. Housing, it seems is a problem, worldwide, as we have seen this past year. . .
That said about the station, the bus arrived, we boarded and proceeded to drive to Spain!
We arrived in Sevilla about 6 hours later. The bus terminal in Sevilla was only about 15 mins from our Airbnb, but had to kill about 1 hour before we could check in. We rolled our carryons over those cobblestone streets (chuckachuckachucka!) and had some lunch in a cool little cafe, Balino Yoga Cafe with a "Yoga Menu," a bulletin board of different yoga offerings in the area. This cafe was right up my alley! The falafel was delicious too!
We checked into our Airbnb, which was located in the historical neighborhood, and were surprised to hear a parade coming down our street! I believe it was their Corpus Christi celebration, but couldn't find anything online about it.
Over the next three days, we did a cool bike tour around the city, went to the Flamenco Museum and visited the Seta de Sevilla (pictures below!) My favorite was just taking a stroll around the historical neighborhood and window shopping in the maze of streets.
