Nagoya - trekking on the Nakasendo

Aug 9th - 11th, 2023

We did not spend a lot of time in the town of Nagoya. Instead we decided to trek the ancient Nakasendo trail. During the Edo period (1603-1868), the Nakasendo trail was a walking route between Tokyo and Kyoto, which spanned 540 km (340 miles). We did the 8 km route from Magome to Tsumago. From Nagoya, we took a train and then a bus to Magome to start the hike. It is a beautiful trail with a combination of forest, fields, river, ancient town and more modern areas. My favorite part of the walk was stopping by a waterfall and resting our weary feet into the nice cool water. My second favorite was ringing the bear bells enthusiastically!
