Cruisin' around Europe - Cobh, Ireland

Monday, May 6th, 2024

We came into the cute town of Cobh, Ireland. It's a harbor town with access to Cork. We decided to explore the port town rather than taking a day trip into the city of Cork. Along the harbor, there were a bunch of little shops and pubs, which is where we got a proper pint of Guinness and enjoyed an Irish pub with our kids. Haha.

The town of Cobh is stunning as you come in on the ship. You can see the tall towers of St. Coleman's Cathedral from far away. And as you float into town, you notice the brightly colored homes all along the hills of the town. On this Monday, there was some kind of festival happening along the pier. The kids got some treats and Scot and I got some extra steps as we walked along the waterfront.

Another interesting fact of Cobh, Ireland, is that there are numerous memorials, museums and places of homage to the Titanic and its passengers. Cobh was the Titanic's last port of call before it headed west toward its untimely demise.

Before our cruise ship set sail, a local band showed up on the pier and played music for about 30 mins. Not sure if we were the first cruise ship of the season, but it seemed like the local townsfolk enjoyed having the ship in port. There were a bunch of people waving us good-bye while the band played.
